Malnutrition and the health issues it can lead to are commonplace in less developed countries, where a wide range of ongoing issues lead to available food being lower in quality and quantity.

Through my research I learnt that Large portions of food and produce is lost or damaged during storage and transportation to markets due to a lack of effective means of protection. The latter is a larger issue with most loss occurring due to use sacks, carrier bags or old card boxes, with each struggling to protect the contents.
The Mamireti bag
Comprised of a strong outer and two adaptable Containers the Mamireti bag is designed to reduce damage dealt to produce in transit in order to help increase the quality and quantity of available food.
The Outer
Made from 450D polyester, which was chosen for its strength, durability, wear and water resistance. The bag holds 40L, however the bags roll top design provides a variable capacity and a watertight seal to protect against the elements.
With fully adjustable shoulder, chest and waist straps all made with 10mm closed cell EVA foam padding designed for support and comfort.
Hard Produce/Water Container
Made from impact resistant polypropylene copolymer, this container is designed to protect more durable produce. The container is also water tight and as such can be used for carrying water. It has a 25l capacity, which provides ample volume while not producing risk of overloading to the user. There are two interchangeable screw plugs that can be swapped for items like water spigots, hoses or spouts.
Soft produce Container
Made from the same impact resistant polypropylene copolymer this container is designed for transportation of softer more easily damaged produce. Based on a suspension filing system, each stackable container can take 1 to 3 holders depending on the size of the produce. Each holder also acts as a matt for displaying produce for sale to prevent dirtying from laying the ground.
Features
Waterproof
The hard produce container is watertight thanks to the use of rubber seals, allowing the container to also be used for water transportation.
Human based design
The padding on the bag has been designed to support both the upper and lower back. There are gaps between each piece of padding in order to promote airflow to reduce discomfort during use.
Reducing injuries
The bag has four straps two for each shoulder and one each for the chest and waist, these straps help to redistribute the weight of the bags contents to help reduce potential injuries. Each strap is fully adjustable to allow the bag to fit a wide range of users.
Increasing comfort
The padding, shoulder and waist straps are all made from 10mm Closed cell EVA foam covered in durable polyester to ensure a lasting comfort.
Cleanliness
The materials used in both the bags outer and the internal storage compartments were also chosen for their ease of cleaning. The polyester and polypropylene are both very easy to clean requiring only a quick wipe to remove any dirt or dust, this reduces material fatigue from scrubbing and prolonged washing. This allows for safer cleaner transportation of food, improving the quality of food available.
Easy to use
The bag has been designed to be as simple to use as possible, requiring little to no training or explanation before use.
