The Drop Seed
Aid from Air to Care
Medical Care
In Africa
I decided to look into medical care and issues surrounding treatment for malaria in Africa
I started by using trend mapping to break down the areas which can have an effect on the availability and access to Medical care and treatment for malaria.
I found 5 main areas and looked into issues within each
I discovered one of the main issues with receiving medical treatment for malaria
is - Access. A large number of people go untreated due to living too far away from a doctor or treatment site.
They often cannot afford to travel there or treatment can not reach them due to there being no way of it lasting the journey.
Ideation and Concepts
The Por-Table Fridge
An air-dropped solar powered fridge with a fold out table, designed to deliver and store malaria treatment and aid. The table provides a space for paperwork and administering of vaccines
The Cold Case
A chilled case powered by solar energy to allow transport of vaccines and medicine for a few days maintaining cold chain storage and prevent denaturing of vaccines.
The Drop Seed
A maple seed shape inspired medical aid drop pod, cooled and shock resistant, designed to slowly drop to where it is needed while maintaining cold chain storage
Concept Development
The Drop Seed
A lightweight wing made from an aluminium frame covered with HDPE along with a transport pod consisting of a HDPE outer sphere with a VR100 mouldable insulation and D30 shock absorbant linings. A solar powered Peltier cooling device keeps the contents cool, and a built in locator prevents losing the seed.
The Drop Seed
An air drop delivery system designed to deliver malaria aid to sites where conditions or difficulties in transport would normally prevent delivery
